Even though each AfterMath Live session is new and unique, you can still save data online and download it for future use. Similarly, you can upload prior data for use in your current AfterMath Live session. This documents details how saving, downloading, and uploading data work in a streaming software session, like AfterMath Live.
Saving AfterMath Archives
Because each AfterMath Live session is non-persistent, you cannot save work online. You can temporarily save data (as AfterMath Archive files, *.paax) during your session, but you must download them to your local computer prior to logging off, closing the browser tab, or letting your session idle for more than 10 minutes. Within your browser tab is an upper menu of icons. The folder icon (circled below) give you access to the temporary AfterMath Live folder, where you saved data will be located. This is the same folder into which you can upload data from your local computer (for example, upload previously saved data for use in the current online session):
After clicking the button circled in the image above, AfterMath Live displays a “My Files” windows in your browser, where the “Temporary Files” folder is displayed:
Click “Temporary Files” to open the folder. Here, you will see any AfterMath archive files you have saved this session. You may also upload archive files from your local computer to AfterMath Live. Do this by either clicking the “Upload Files” link (circled below), or dragging and dropping files from your computer desktop onto the window as shown. This uploads your data to AfterMath Live for use this session. Remember, saving data in a streaming cloud-based software is slightly different than when the software is installed on your local computer.
Downloading AfterMath Archives
Similarly, before you exit AfterMath Live, whether by closing the browser tab, logging off of the session, closing the browser, or letting idle for > 10 minutes, you must download any saved data if you want to access them again. Follow the same process above, however within the Temporary Files folder, you will be able to either click the file to download, or, click the arrow to expose a menu where you can click “Download:”
Uploading AfterMath Archives
In a very similar way as downloading AfterMath Live archives, you can upload archives from your desktop. For example, you may wish to load an archive from a previous session. Or, you may have downloaded a dataset from the Sim Library. Simply click the Files icon in the AfterMath Live toolbar to open the Temporary Files dialog (see above). From there, click the Upload button and choose the file from your local computer to upload:
Once uploaded, you can click the Open icon in AfterMath Live, where you will be able to select from any files that you have uploaded to My Files:
